My experiences with Dr. Anthony Dellatore have been top notch. Every vet is pricey, but he always worked within our budget. Dr. Anthony has helped 2 of our ferrets come back from very chronic illnesses (without surgery). He always returns my messages very timely. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr Anthony to anyone. We have always been treated with kindness and compassion.
Due to the unwillingness of Dr. Mitchell and the Hockessin Animal Hospital to work with me in an honest manner, I will no longer be asking for their services and if you choose to provide them with your business, I urge you to not only ask about the cost of each service prior to consent, but restate exactly what you believe you are receiving in a very thorough manner.
Well I felt it necessary to write this review just to be a bit contrary to the negative ones found. While yes i find them to be a bit eager to do pricey work (they are, after all, trying to make a profit), they have always been well organized and only given me the services that I've asked for. I use them primarily for grooming with some shots and other services from time to time. My dog (cockapoo) has issues with ear infections and when needed they will provide me the medications, with ample supply, to treat at home for a reasonable cost.
Not ok with debt, so I won't be returning to the Hockessin Animal Hospital.
That said, I have been fortunate enough to only need to use Hockessin Animal Hospital for routine services, and have found them to be a top-notch facility. I am always seen promptly, and they have never had difficulty fitting me in during evening hours so I don't have to take time off of work. While the services are not inexpensive, I believe that the quality of care and professionalism provided are worth it. Staff members and veterinarians have always fully explained everything to me, and my dog LOVES them. They have offered to write me prescriptions for any medications I may need, so that I can do price comparisons and purchase from wherever I can find the best value for what my dog needs. Overall, I whole-heartedly recommend Hockessin Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a safe, clean hospital with friendly, professional staff who love animals and want their owners to be fully informed and involved in their care.
I was told by Dr. Mitchell over the phone that my cat's bill was $198.98 I was then told that they were going to run do an x-ray and run blood work to learn more about the extent of her illness.
Maria returns and said that her supervisor has offered to break the bill into two payments, still totaling $498. This was the only remedy offered, and after 45 minutes of waiting in the lobby while Maria waited to speak with Dr. Mitchell and then to her supervisor, while the time was ticking because my 10 month old son would be waking up any moment, hungry for dinner I was stuck. They had my cat, they have my name on a bill for $498 and I was given no other choice but to pay full price for the services rendered.
When I arrive to pick up my cat, the young assistant, Maria, tells me that my total is $498! After explaining that I was told the bill would be $300, Maria offers to speak to Dr. Mitchell to learn about the services on the invoice. She comes back out, explains that the x-ray was actually $300 and not the $100 that Dr. Mitchell had allowed me to believe it was. I express my frustration and unwillingness to pay the $498 and offer to pay the agreed to $300. Maria offers to speak to her supervisor.
I chose Hockessin Animal Hospital due to its location near my house as well as its affiliation with Windcrest Animal Hospital, a 24-hour emergency hospital. As a long-time pet owner, I know when an animal gets sick it is usually on a Saturday night, so having access to an emergency center that already has my dog's health history can provide critical detail when it's needed most.
I think about the cost of the x-ray for a moment and I say "that doesn't sound too bad" and explain why I believe the x-ray is worth the extra $100. Dr. Mitchell agrees with me.
Know what your pet needs and doesn't need - be educated - this is good advice not just for dealing service based business but life in general. I think the other reviewers might need to learn this :-).
Very friendly dr
Before hanging up, I asked about the purpose of the lab work and the x-ray. I deemed the blood work unnecessary and the x-ray as beneficial. I asked about the cost of the x-ray and I was told by Dr. Mitchell, the services so far total $198.98, and the x-ray will bring it around $300. I interpreted this as the x-ray costing an additional $100.
